Shoot 3- Extra pictures

Here are a few more photos from Lordship Park, these are more of us behind the camera:

Final Shoot Day

On Saturday we had our final shoot day and I think we have finally got all the shots we needed it was a really successful, fun day and we got it all done well under the time we thought we would. The day began at 10.00 when we arrived at the photographic house in stoke newington. The house was huge and inside it was amazing and perfect for the final shooting day.

We began downstairs on the basement level which was the more modern room. We took around 400 photos(!) of the band in different positions, sitting, standing, in front of different walls and we got a good selection of shots. We also took individual shots and we all helped eachother out to get the photos we wanted. I was happy with what we got and we also have a lot of selection for the tasks that we need them for. The only negative was that we couldnt make costume changes because it was impossible to have lots of sets of clothing for 5 members of the band.

We then took a break and the band changed into their suits it begin the filming process upstairs. We chose a different level which worked well for the rich look that we wanted. The lighting took a while to set up at first and as a group we went through what looked best. We then began shooting, I was able to shoot footage aswel as helping with the positioning of lights, the positioning of the band and what movement needed to be done. We worked really hard and got all the shots that we wanted.

Overall I really enjoyed the day, we got good footage and photos and the band and group worked well together. I found it harder working in a different location compared to the studio as we had to work out the lighting at each different place in the house. I am so happy with out whole production stage, it was hard work but im hoping after all the editing process we can produce a really good video, website and album cover.

Second Shoot

So much has been done!! We only now have our shoot left tommorow and we hopefully have everything. The second shoot went well too. Although it took a while to get started as we had to make sure the fire alarm had been turned off ( so we didn't set the fire alarm off again!), therefore we couldn;t use the haze machine untill then. When we got the all clear the haze machine wasn't working however it got fixed and things quickly got under way.

I think we all really worked hard as a team we wrote out a shot list and really worked on shots we had missed out or we really wanted/needed. I got to have a go on the lights and was responsible for getting the lights up at the right time for the shots at the beginning of the video which was fun! I also recorded more footage and enjoyed using the camera more. I decided to film lots of footage of behind the scenes and asked the boys questions as if it was a reall shoot which was lots of fun.

Overall im really happy with our progress, I'm hoping thats us done with the Seward Studio and that tomorrows loaction goes to plan. We need to get photos of the boys tomorow as well as shooting lots more footage. It's going to be a long day but everyones got on really well and as long as we supply the snacks everyone should stay happy!

Ideas for the shoot in the house

Here's just a few of my ideas for the shoot in the house

  • Lots of group shots
  • Use stuff for cutaways
  • Act like they are rich
  • Emphasise wealth
  • Wearing suits, hair combed
  • Living the high life
  • Exploring the house
  • Rap part- them walking through the house, lots of doors
  • 'Check the mirror'- tom p in front of the dressing table
  • Very over the top, play it up, comical, mocking wealth
  • As if the band have realy made it and this is the life

First Shoot

I am so happy with how our first shoot went, although we were suppose to be having a dress rehearsal, we naturally ended up filming and getting different shots,we filmed the dance and tried out lots of different techniques. The boys came in and Jess and I styled them in order to make them look the part and had to make sure that the clothing matched and worked well as a boyband. We were happy with how they eventually looked, we went for a blue, black, grey colour scheme and jack mullen and tom p ended up weaing the boots that we bought and they really added to the look.

I got to learn a lot about the lighting and different cameras and I feel the way we shot the video was much more professional. I had lots of practise with the bigger camera and got to take different shots as well as helping Tom get tracking shots. I also helped with the music cue's, organised the band and helped with dance, look and organisation of them.

Overall I think I contributed wel to the shoot, it was a long process but we all worked really hard and was able to get the shots in a quicker time then we thought we would have. Im looking forward to thursdays shoot and want to get more practise with the camera and get more shots and I also want to maybe have a go working some of the lighting.

Technical Ideas

I've been thinking  about how I'd liked the technical side of our video to go. We had our tech rehearsal on Thursday and I think it went well but for me really highlighted how much tech, lighting and work is needed for us to pull it off.

I've watched a lot of boyband videos and from that I've noticed the sort of camera angles and techniques we need to be using in order to portray the pop boy band genre this will also reflect Carol Venallis as her theory uses:

  • lots of close ups and extreme close ups
  • style and framing should run through the video and should be obvious
  • The camera should move in time with both the music and the lyrics
  • Frequent master shots
Shots that I would liked to use in our video would be like these:
  • These shots show the band in a medium close up which I really like and want to use in our video. It shows the band individually and as a group.

  • These shots are key to creating the right image technically we need lots of different close ups and extreme close ups of our band, their face, their body, their look.

  • I really like this shot and I really think we can create this using the haze machine and the lighting in the Seward Studio this shot would be really interesting and would work well.

  •  We need lots of these different shots of the band individually. They are a new band and for our target audience they need to know each member individually and also as a group.

New Location

We were pretty much set on using the Seward Studio as our location for the whole video and we did of course have the worry that it could become quite boring and quite repetitive, however we believed it would work. That was until I found out about another location from a friend she showed me the website and as she has a connection with the owners of the location she spoke to them first. She then gave me contact details and I called up the Photographic location.

We have managed to get this loaction for free, they are happy for us to film and take photos, aslong as we dont play the track too loud. We have the location from 10 till 5 ( or when were finished). Jess and I showed Ms Blackborow the location she loved it and with her advice we are now cancelling the Saturday 6th November shoot in the Seward Studio and instead going straight to Lordship Park the new location.

We now plan to shoot bits of our video in the house which will give the video more perforance and we hope to create something more interesting with the band acting more. We want to play on the lyrics and pretend the band are living the high life and are living a rich life.

There is the possibility as we are not paying that they may have to cancel us if they get a huge money offer which we obviously understand. If this does happen we still have the Seward Studio and will take up our original plan.
